I was confused about Brandeis – do they have any specific distribution requirement or do they have requirements that you can easily fulfill? Or do they have core classes that everyone must fulfill for graduation? I looked onlne, but I’m not entirely sure. I get the impression that there aren’t any (at least, no specific core classes), but I could be wrong…

I don't think there are any specific classes...you have to take 1 or 2 PE (but can easily get out of it with an exam), a USEM/USEM+W, 1 or 2 writing intensive courses, 3 semesters of a foreign language, and then a course each in fine arts, humanities, social sciences, and math/science. things can double-count too, like with your major, foreign language over 3 levels, and writing intensive courses can be any in the school distribution.

it's not bad at all, especially if you're only taking 1 major. And if you're taking 2, that's more classes than can count for distribution. Essentially your required courses are going to be USEM, a writing course, foreign language, and 2 courses outside your major. PE's not for credit. you can easily get out of FL too.

(I'm not a student yet but I live in my course catalog, so to speak).

link to description of requirements: be sure to note that writing requirements change a bit with the class entering 2007 (one of two options that used to be available to meet the requirement, no longer will be, and "oral communication" course can meet one writing requirement)

(fyi to any students who will be entering in fall 2007 - if they do as they have done in the past, they will send you detailed info over the summer re registration and requirements and a student advisor will contact you to answer any questions that you have.)

The requirements are not like the typical core classes in that you don't have to take English 101 or anything like that. Unbelievablem covered it in the links basically. You have to take 3 semester of language, but it's waaay easy to pass out via SAT2. If you're not math inclined, you can get quantitative reasoning through other classes like economics and a few historyish classes. You also have to take a science, nonwestern (which there are MANY including intro to anth), humanities, social science, USEM (which kind of takes the place of a basic English except it's in a focused and typically kind of quirky area), a creative arts class, writing intensives, and 2 PEs.

For many degrees, you don't really even have to take many extra classes to get these requirements. I'm an IGS major and can fit ALL of these minus the PE into my major.

SilverClover, THANKS for that info. Good to know.

Many thanks!

Plus if you take AP, its also very easy to get credit to fulfill your requirements
