ditching classes

Dude…nobody picks their major because it’s easy/hard or to brag about it…you pick a major you ENJOY and have interest in. Stop bagging on history, it’s annoying. You are implying that history majors aren’t as intelligent as people with other majors??? First of all, i’ll be doing half the work you will and still have a diploma from ucla. Second, I doubt you, specifically, could hang in history classes at ucla judging by your um writing “skills”. You make no sense. If you are going to law school, history is a great choice. You obviously know nothing about that, so please…shush. :)

Hijinx, You have never taken a class at UCLA so stop talking. You have no idea how hard it is going to be. A 3.8 is very weak for someone who claims to be so smart. I got a 4.0 and missed class as well, do I make a scene about it? No, because a) I have modesty and b) I appreciate that I didn’t have to work for it since I was not challenged at CC. UCLA is a whole different world. Do you understand the concept of staggered grading? You will be graded on a curve in relation to z scores, as such a 90% will probably not be an A it may be a B+ since they can only give a certain percent of students an A… a B+ is a 3.3. No matter how smart you think you are, you will have a hard time. I guarantee after one quarter you will realize you are actually not the ****.

A 3.8 from a history major is nothing special. In fact, it’s dumb. You mean to tell me you actually got less then an “A” in a GE class? Granted an occasional “B” in a calculus class, bio, chem, or physics is exceptable. What did you get the “B’s” in? Congratulations on being adequate.

This is kind of funny. By bashing on someone else, you are bragging about yourself. So why are you hating on the history major (as lame as he may seem) for bragging when you’re doing the exact same thing? I don’t understand.

Imo, a 4.0 is a 4.0 no matter what major you are. A math or science major might find it impossible to get a As in social sciences or humanities, and vice versa.

Okay, first all all, hijynx does not have a 4.0, second of all that is not the case at all. Math/Science classes require alot more of a holistic subject understanding to fully understand the material as well as practical application… as opposed to memorizing dates or opinions which do not necessarily require a complete understanding of the subject to accurately convey.

Simon> I believe that you might be thinking about the lower division G.E. history courses taught at CCs (and quite possibly a few individual UD courses as well). Regurgitating dates and other people’s opinions is the perfect way to get low 3.0s for the major at the UC level (if even that much). The discipline is very much about learning to develop new questions or aspects of questions that haven’t previously been answered and then conducting research involving primary source materials and applying both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to strengthen the analysis which then attempts to answer these questions. This is why many history majors tend to gravitate towards law schools (which are research intensive) for their postgrad work.

@wannabe…

i’m all for contractions… but, come on, man.

@simonphase…

your lucid and pithy understanding of the social sciences and their purpose makes me cower in shame of my pursuit, you arrogant tool.

second of all,

???

who are you?

“a” “lot” = two words … which even your bio prof should have made clear to you, by now.

@ the rest of you…

half of you – not to limit my complaint to those in this thread alone – give a call for maturity by whining like little girls about one member’s (typically entertaining) method of conveying his own opinions. realize that, on da innarwebz, you’re neither confined nor protected by the typical formalities granted in common mediums of conversation. here, you’re judged purely on your words, for what they actually mean. if you say something foolish… if you don’t comprehend something obvious… if you generally falter in your pseudo-speech… you WILL be called out. if not by hyjinx, then by me, or someone like one of us, who, under this liberating veil of anonymity, has the luxury of being blunt, witty or arrogant, as we so choose.

get used to it..

if it’s your purpose to objectify someone’s self-righteousness, the last way you should think to go about doing so is to degrade them for their chosen major. you’ve got to realize the hypocrisy and general foolishness in doing that…

and, now, food for thought, with pinkerfloyd…

if you’re the type of person who feels he has the right… rather, the chutzpah… to trivialize an entire school of academic study… and you also happen to be the type of person who would prefer to be taken seriously, by serious people… you should seriously reevaluate the way in which you form your opinions.

i mean… for so many alleged men/women ‘of science’, you lot seem pretty ****ing subjective.

pinkerfloyd: thanks for sharing you’re opinions~

@50cal… my pleasure.

and i’ll **** you up in some CoD.

Lawlz. This thread erupted in quite the flame war.

@Hijynx

I should rephrase my first post. "Good luck keeping up those study habits while maintaining a 3.8+ GPA @ UCLA. I’m sure you would agree that getting a 3.8+ @ UCLA would be somewhat more difficult and perhaps a better measure of academic ability than getting a 3.8 at a community college.

wt.f? No one is bagging on your major. I’m saying, majoring in history at a community college is nothing to brag about, like hijynx99. I’m all for people who do things that they love. And I hope for all the success in the world for everyone focusing on their career and goals. I’m sure UCLA has a way harder history program than at the community colleges.

If a person act like their **** smells like flowers, he deserves to get pointed out like that. This isn’t the first thread that I had a “w.tf” face reading his post.

@missanab: They aren’t really bagging on our major. They are trying to attack me by attacking history. Unfortunately for them I am immune to their weak insults. Do you think if there was a UCLA History professor in front of them they would insult the major? Of course not, these tools would say “Excuse me sir, which testicle must I suckle today” it’s pretty funny.

@Simon: Excuse me, sir! I took UCLA Travel study!!! Was two awesome 5 week classes, but we still had 5 quizzes, 3 essay exams + 1 final, and a 20 page essay due 1 week after class ended. I was one of 7 people who got As in both classes. The vast majority got B+/A- and some got high Cs and low Bs.

Once again, you are the type of person who feels UCLA is some academic utopia, and it infuriates you that someone like me is going there and acts/feels the way I do. I think the reason people like you develop this fear and anger is because you have A) Not had much interaction with intellectuals in your life and B) You have never really accomplished anything of merit, so my success and undermining of the system for what it really is ruins your fantasy of being some elite ivory tower tool.

@riley: Yup I got a C in Cinema! What can I say, I just didn’t want to go!I got docked 15% for missing more than 6 classes. Fine by me :slight_smile: I still know I’m a GENIUS!!!

@Pinker: You know they won’t EVER get it, right? No matter how blunt you put it, these tools just get played like violins, being used as my entertainment while passing time at work.

@supa: Of course it will be more difficult at UCLA than CC. That is why I plan to go to class more often. Though I may hold off on buying books, I suckered missanab into taking Roman history with me, and I can mooch off her books…right, ana? :D

@noobartist: How often do you have the “w.tf face” when reading your own posts? I would imagine quite often.

No we are bagging on your major. You think you’re hot **** because you have a 3.8 and got into UCLA (even though so did most of us here), yet you took the easiest possible route. Nobody has the delusion you’ve actually accomplished anything but yourself…

Same goes for you too Pink with your joke major.

@hijynx: Not as much as I read yours, douch.e. However, Good luck with your career by the way, I hope you don’t end up serving me coffee at starbucks, if you can’t make it to law school.

Yeah, but we social science majors are actually having sex. Ya’ll have fun stressing about class and not seeing a boob (or *****) for another ten years. ;)

@ noob… i hope that, by the time you graduate from college, you’ll be able to successfully construct a sentence.

@ whoswith… same goes to you. and also, you seem to have missed something –> he thinks he’s hot **** because he’s maintained a 3.8 without busting his balls, which seems to have been deemed, by you, the only respectable way for one to make grades, you presumptuous, sadomasochistic little rascal, you…

i’m going to take a shot in the dark, here, and guess that neither of you are older than 20.

am i right?

@whos: Like Pink said, I think I am hot **** because I accomplished it without busting my balls. It is a triumph to my greatness. I am thinking of having an Arch erected in my honor at the foot of Palatine Hill. What do you say? Like I said, please see my post about me destroying your delusion of the utopia that is UCLA. My sole presence there completely strips you of all your pride.

@noob: I am a white jew from Encino. How likely is it that I will be serving you starbucks? I can always fall back on the JEWry business, electronics business, or starting my own ponzi scheme.

I think the fact a chick came in here and clowned on your inability to get laid pretty much says it all :frowning:

While you kids were stressing about finals 3 weeks early back in Spring, I started my vacation a bit early, and got back from vegas the same day I had my first final.

I of course still aced the sucker, and had $150 in poker winnings to boot :D

@ pinkerfloyd, you probably would consider i sold my PS3… Reverting to the good old days of MMO’s on the PC now. Probably not a good idea with the move to UCLA looming… goodbye social life.

off subject - where is the function button located to post new threads? New to the site and can’t find it. Thanks!

LOL sophee, you read my mind.
It’s ok, we will enjoy our social life together with fellow social science majors and guys who know what an actual vag ina looks like :)
