Diversity at Notre Dame is a joke

Well yeah, Notre Dame is probably number one, right now. Although he kinda holds his cards close until he has all his answers in.

Congrats, Unfortunately, Notre Dame was my number one, and I was denied.

I’m sorry. I know you’ve heard it before, but you will find where you’re meant to be and it will be home. Best of luck. Where are you hoping for now? Or do you have a number two that you’ll now commit to?

Thanks and I know I’ll end up where I was meant to be.

ND is a Catholic university but it doesn’t impose a litmus test. Being a Catholic will not help you. Indeed, many students were rejected by our local Catholic high school. As for diversity, it is far more than ticking boxes. They look at your essays, activities and recommendations. As people have posted before, you need to STAND OUT in some way. Be memorable. Have the admissions officers see something that other students don’t have. High grades and high test scores are par for the course.

Of course, one difference is that ND proudly promotes legacy admissions. There is nothing wrong with that. It is a private university. And again, no one “deserves” to be admitted, especially not when a university makes it abundantly clear that there is no formula and that scores are just one element in a holistic process.

The way I have always looked at it is, would I want to go to someplace that rejected me? Obviously they didn’t want me. Doesn’t diminish who I am.

@JoanArc “Diversity” isn’t limited to race. ND and other highly selective universities also look for students from social-economically deprived backgrounds, students who have overcome adversity, and students who have excelled in different areas. There is nothing unethical about this, no more than it is unethical to accept students whose parents could afford private schools or private tutoring for the SAT.

It seems to me that many students simply have a problem with rejection. When they are rejected, they look for an excuse. Race provides a convenient one. But visit ND, Harvard, Georgetown, Chicago etc. There are thousands of white, male students. Whites students are in the majority at most universities. Just accept that in this case, you were not selected.

On question. How can you be more “Catholic” than someone else? That goes against basic Catholic theology. ND doesn’t ask how often you go to church etc. Catholics get rejected too as too many apply for the available places.
