Diversity at UP?

But were white students in the audience?

I'm black, and I've lived in majority white, surburban areas for so long, that it's actually harder for me to associate with black students from more urban places. That worried me, because I'd heard that PSU was very segregated, that people stuck with their own races. And when I went to visit, I saw some of that, but everyone seemed friendly, and I didn't feel any racial tension at all. That sort of thing tends to happen unconciously, and in such a big school it's probably easier to spot. But I don't know if it's any more/less than other schools.

After our tour, random students of every color started conversations with me, just to tell me how much they loved the school. It was a pretty nice experience. I'm sure that with enough effort, one can make friends with whomever they want.

its not THAT big of a deal, i just wanted some insight from some people that would know. but thanks for all your input

diverse crowd, diverse acts... son was in one of the bands and had a great time

interesting thread

Sounds like my three kids. None has a clue how to interact with a black urban kid. All of their friends are either white or Asian.
