Ok so I'm going to be a senior at my two high schools this year and Kenyon is my number one school. I haven't visited yet and my only worry is the diversity at Kenyon because I'm black. I'm the only black student at the competitive math and science center that I attend so I'm used to being outnumbered but I don't won't to be in another hostile environment for four years. So what is it like at Kenyon?

I don't think people will be hostile towards you. I've visited the campus before (and I am a minority), and I have never experienced such friendliness before. Hope that helps! But you will definitely not find as many Black students as you would like compared to colleges like Amherst.

If you try to isolate yourself, you can. If you just be yourself and don't worry about things you will be accepted just like anyone else.

If you like the school, you'll be JUST FINE :)

molbioace has a great point. I think the best way here is to be yourself. what i have felt is that the only people that do not mix well here are those that try to isolate themselves as a particular group and not be a part of the whole kenyon. while it is good to be a part of your particular association or anything as such, it is also important to mix with everyone else. hope this makes sense.

Thank heavens for diversity. I'm glad we have non-caucasions going to Kenyon. I don't know if I could stand Kenyon if it was so cookie-cutter like a boarding school. Still, I have to admit it does lack a bit, but still I'm glad to see there is some diversity at least.

Kenyon is really not a very diverse college, ethnically. However, they would like to be and if you are a member of a minority group and smart, you will probably get in and get aid.

As an alumni, I am always amused because all their alumni bulletins and as I recall their marketing brochures try to project this image of Kenyon being so diverse. And then you get there, you see that they are not exactly being truthful.

Still, its a pretty good college. You really ought to visit the colleges you are interested in and get a feel for where you feel comfortable (and where they will give you money because at $40,000 a year, its way too expensive)

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this because most of my classmates feel that Kenyon isn't diverse, however, Kenyon is much more diverse than my high school. Despite this lack of diversity, I have seen no instances of racism or segragation in my two months here. People do not stick with their own ethnicities and there does not appear to be racial tension. Kenyon may not be the most racially diverse campus, but the majority of students are open minded and accepting.
