So, as a gay student entering a college, basically in the middle of no where i have to wonder about what life is like there for the lgbt community. I'm not really sure what to expect.

I am not sure though, but I do know a couple of gay friends from the class of 2010 and I guess that Kenyon is pretty liberal and accepting. So, eh no worries I guess when it comes to discrimination and such. But lgbt life? I've no idea...

the lgbt society at Kenyon (ALSO) is very active. I have a lot of friends in that organization and I also know a lot of gays and lesbians on campus. i dont know the stats but I am sure it is very high. needless to say, these ppl are all amazing and everyone is accepting of everyone.

Mark (quakeroaties) and I are gonna have a great time this fall.

thumbs up

^ Yes we are.

Yeh, Kenyon is quite the liberal minded college. The guy that invented the birth control pill even spent time in Gambier for heaven's sake. Ha... ha

I wasn't really concerned about Kenyon being open-minded, I was more concerned about the quantity and quality of gays. I mean the thing is, a gay student going to college has the possibility of feeling just as alone as they did in high school.

^ If my assumptions are correct, there is a fair amount of quality gay guys at Kenyon. However, it is a concern that I have had. Then again, I have friends at huge universities that are unable to find anyone.

Heres how I look at small liberal arts schools... While enrollment may be small, LAC's have distinct cultures that will attract a certain type of student. Therefore, while you may not be friends with everyone, you'll find that you will be able to connect with a high percentage of kids than if you attend a large university. So despite the enrollment, chances of finding someone you connect with on a relationship level might be the same as a large university. This is, of course, just what some of my friends in college have told me.

Anyway, if you're unsure, you can always just find a gay Kenyon kid on myspace and ask him about it. Myspace was a great tool for my college search.
