probably since CAS is the biggest college, more letters are gonna show up from their part

Yeah. I’m in CALS so its not just CAS. I forgot to say Congrats to everyone:)

My son got one and only applied to the school of engineering.

I’m so happy best day EVER!!!

Declared Econ major at CAS in case anyone was curious.

Any idea how many of these get sent out? I’m guessing it’s in the hundreds? Also, is everyone who got one of these messages a minority? I’m pretty happy that I got one but I kinda feel like it’s minority recruitment if only minorities get them…

I applied for the AEM program in CALS and I got this.

This is one of the best days of my life! So excited!!

So far as I’ve seen only minorities get them.

I, too, struggle with the frustration of it being “only minority recruitment” but , honestly, your stats had to be pretty up there to get this letter. Think of it this way

if you got a likely letter being a minority probably didn’t make a significant impact in your decision because your stats are so good that you could have gotten in RD.

Anyway today is just a day to forget AA bs and be excited. Ivy league here we come !

I got this e-mail as well, I was confused at first until I read it two more times lol :). How do you guys know which school you got into if you applied primary/alternate?

Anyone know if SWE likely letters are by email also? Did anyone get them yet?

The visit’s for 4 days??! wow that’s a lot of school missed! o_0

Well I guess these letters for minority only! Oh well I applied from Haiti and for a Haitian… Acceptance to an Ivy League is just BIG NEWS!!! LOOOL Well jadore317, I applied CALS and the College of engineering so I think thats a good question! Congrats to all hope I’ll get to meet some of you guys in August :)

Hey do Indian international ever get likely letters?

@Nil:

Not true at all. My friend got in with an 1850 SAT Bio major. Unfair if you have financial issues yourself, have similar or higher grades, and are a first generation American that is considered a URM.

Hmm, well my gpa was a 96.8 something
I was 23/285 people when applying (top 10 percent)
and my sat was a 1490/2250
I also will graduate having taken 8 AP classes, 3 in my junior year, 5 in my senior year. I got 5s on all the AP tests I took junior year.
I retook SAT subject tests and got a 730 Bio, 760 USH
I also had awards which I shall not list here.
I applied in Biology.

Of course your friend may have other circumstances which may make him an obvious admit. but I cannot know that.

As for unfairness, I cannot say anything about that. You may still get in, (and with money too) so right now I cannot see why it is so unfair.

Good luck. :)

I got in for the ILR School

I received one for CAS as well! I’m so excited, I can’t believe I received another likely! God is too good!

Any Asians got this letter? Do Asians count as minority in this case?
This question hasn’t be answered explicitly.

My D got one from CALS but anyone griping her about stats -she had a 2250 composite single sitting SAT, SAT Subj tests over 700 for Lit and 759 for math II. She has more ECS than any other person I have seen even on CC and I am confident she would have gotten in if she was not a Latina but she is and it may be the reason she got this likely since its an ivite to a multicultural weekend for students to reward their outstanding academic work. If anyone wants to say it’s a URM thing, go for it, as for me, I know that she deserves to get in, and as far as I am concerned most URMs who get in overcome obstacles that are so vast that you have no idea how hurtful it is when you gripe. I mean the guy from Haiti said it all-how much harder do you think it is to get a good education in Haiti than in a nice white suburb of NY or NJ? I wish every other applicant success and I hope they do a rolling admit so you all will know. I have mixed feelings about a multicultural party-I wish it was a party for all admits-but am I going to not go? NOT! I am there baby, Mojitos para todos los nuevos estudiantes and Cornell. Ciao-gringo dad…

My feeling is that Asians sort of have an issue because they say they are URMs but the stats on college boards show that Asians have a 99 percentile on the SAT that is higher than white by an order of almost 50 points (at least in math as I recall). So, in fact you compete within your own URM IMHO–I am not sure why if you are an admit and they want to state x percent of admits are “students of color” why you should be excluded. If they want to claim your bring diversity than IMHO you should be part of the multicultural diversity as should whites for that matter…I know that is not how it is now but multicultural for now means the cultures that are not the majority I guess…
