For reals? I have been checking the mail (and e-mail) with great enthusiasm for the past weeks. I can’t wait to see whether the big envelope arrived for me today. Damn. April is going to be sweet. I can’t believe things are finally paying off.

Oh I want one in the mail… sigh…

I’m in NY 60 miles north of NYC, maybe 3.5 hours southeast of Cornell, which is likely why I got it today. They’re coming!

If any of you applied primary/alternate, you may call to inquire as to which school you’ve been admitted.

Congrats to everyone who got likelies!

I’m a current freshman, who experienced the same thing last year. I just wanted all of you to know that you shouldn’t feel bad because it’s a “diversity likely”. Because minorities with high stats are wanted virtually everywhere, schools try to get the interest of these students as early as possible. You didn’t get accepted JUST because you’re a minority, so don’t think it undermines your hard work.

Btw, definitely go to diversity hosting…it’s really fun:)

Ah miss92lady can you tell us more about the diversity hosting weekend? Your experience? What was it like? why cornell?

Got the big enevelope! It’s just a dream! I also got a letter from the financial aid :)

So are the people who are getting the big envelope admitted during ED?

I’m hoping to God that I find one of these in my inbox. I applied as a Hispanic from Venezuela (this is where my heritage originates from, obviously), but I’m afraid my 27 ACT will get my application thrown in the trash, regardless of any EC’s that demonstrate passion or commitment. :(

@observer4u, no, these big envelopes are going to the likely-letter recipients (RD applicants).

@maserrano Thanks

@Cornellian2015 What college did you apply to?

@observer: While, in hindsight, I should’ve applied to the CALS, I applied to CAS, and CAS only.

@smguevara
Sure. Well, I’m from northern NJ so I got to take the bus trip from NYC to Cornell for Diversity Hosting. I remember meeting a decent amount of the people I hang out with now on that bus :). When you get to Cornell, you meet your host (the student you’ll be staying with) and there will be lots of activities going on to keep you busy and give you an idea of what it’s like here. You might also have some time to explore campus on your own. The point is really just to introduce you to Cornell and other prospective minority students while you make your decision. All in all, it’s lots of fun. I know a bunch of people who decided to choose Cornell right at DH.

I chose Cornell because it felt like a good fit for me. I really liked how my college, HumEc, presented itself and how there was so much room for exploration in my curriculum. I also loved Cornell’s history: there are so many cool traditions, myths, and secrets surrounding Cornell. Not to mention, Ithaca is a really beautiful area. I wanted to get out of the city for undergrad and go someplace scenic.

So, there’s my story. Let me know if you guys have anymore questions :D

My son is the valedictorian of his high school with amazing ec’s and he too is a minority, he is jewish. Giving likely letters to urm only undermine the incredible accomplishments that my son has as well. I am not saying these kids are not deserving but this is unfair to my son who is still sweating it out to see if he is accepted. Not fair.everyone should get decisions on the same day!!!

@GMABCD I see where you are coming from, but please know that a Jewish student at my school received this letter. He is white, but Jewish.

@GMABCD I agree with you. Likely letters are good for the students who are receiving them, and I congratulate all of you who have received, yet this only creates more tension for those still waiting for their answers. I know not receiving a likely letter doesn’t mean you won’t get accepted, but this doesn’t really stop from adding tension on students still waiting for their answers. If they’re already accepted, they could just wait for the actual date to tell them!

Masserano he received a likely letter for diversity day really?? Btw I am not saying these students aren’t deserving.

I received a likely too! :)

But tts cos im a female engineering applicant and the society of women engineers is organising some events.

they’re sending out mails? Will probably reach me after 30th march though, since im an international somewhere out there on the equator

i think for cornell, likelys only go out to female engineers, URMs, scholarship shortlistees and truly outstanding others?

still good to receive a likely though, at least i wont receive 9 rejections coming april XD

They probably havnt gotten to your son’s app yet! I don’t think asians and Jews are considered URM in america?

Congrats to u ali88888! Way to go!!!
