Diversity of the Engineering Departments?

Hi,

I’m a admitted MatEng african american who is seriously considering SLO, but the .8% demographic surprised me. How noticeable is the diversity in the engineering major classes and groups, esp mateng?

Weak. Predominantly white, over-representation with Asians (20% but only 10% of total CP population). Nobody pays attention because engineering tends to not care about cultural differences and really just about quantitative performance ability in classes because we have to team up for projects and etc.
