Diversity

How do minority groups fare in Villanova?

I have the same question. I also wonder how much diversity there is outside of simply racial diversity. I’ve visited a couple of schools where a ton of people seem to dress/act/speak very similarly. I’m not interested in this.

Also, Does and if so, how does, Greek Life add to/take away from the social diversity on campus?

They call it Vanillanova for a reason. I’m kidding but its student population is a lot of rich white catholics, but there is some diversity unsure about greek life, but there are no frat or sorority houses.

Regarding cultural diversity , many students do dress/talk/act the same way. They look and act like your typical suburban High School. Most students wear t shirts , jeans , sneakers , flip flops , gym shorts etc. Many play sports , work ourt ,etc!

As far as the “student population is a lot of rich white catholics” what would you expect at an expensive , private Catholic university?
But there are many non catholics and moderate / middle income students here on financial aid.
Villanova has increased the numbers of African Americans (4%)and Hispanics(7%) on campus and is in line regarding Hispanics and slightly below regarding African Americans the percentages of peer institutrions.

The “Vanillanova” stereotype has some basis in reality , but the student body is filled with smart, caring , fun loving & energetic students that do really well after they graduate.

There’s a good amount of minorities here. It’s not going to win the “most diverse award” but it sets up a nice environment. The minorities usually seek each other out if you’re worried that you’ll drown in white people haha. Honestly tho, most people know what they’re getting into and come here because they like hanging out with white kids. Many of the Asians are twinkies (if you don’t know what that is don’t worry about it), but there are a few international kids whose language is mainly not english and they find each other as well. There is a nice indian club that throws nice events as well as ASA. I haven’t seen that many african americans past the athletics teams, they’re around, but i guess not too prevalent cuz the stereotype of this school must scare them? the only group of hispanics i ran into were at a soccer club party… so i’m not actually sure if they go here… hrm… (BTW If you’re from cali btw you’ll prob get good aid here cuz they wanna get kids from that side of the nation.) The only discrimination that I notice is how they usually room you with another minority… although there are exceptions. This is just something I noticed so don’t take my word to be the final say on this. brave ulysses hits it pretty dead on.

If you’re a minority, expect to be treated as a curiosity. Better yet, expect to be treat like a Martian - suspicious glares, calls to governmental agencies, being blamed as the source of night terrors, etc.

I’m exagerrating, of course. However, we know that these rumors and generalizations come from a kernel of truth.
