Did anyone get any letters from them? I did (NYC) and I deffinately want to go. Don’t really know which date I should pick =[

Anyone? Is not putting down my SAT score going to hurt me?

I applied! I havent heard from them yet. They will give noticifications later.

Cool. I put down my horrid SAT score (1480) honestly, IYO, do you think that would hurt my chances og being accepted?

I put mine in the mailbox today!

DIVOH is about uniqueness, so if you are an individual who can make a difference to the campus, yes you have a good chance regardless. But keep in mind, those admission officers look at your grades, and your activities, too. I do not have high SAT’s myself, but I am convinced I have other qualities that make me a good applicant anywhere, where individuals matter. Rigid program at HS is the most important factor ANYWHERE!! No matter how challenged or disadvangated you might be, did you challenge yourself? That is very important.

I mailed my application a few days ago! Responses should be back late August or early September. It would be such an amazing opportunity to go . . .

I feel fairly confident from an academic viewpoint. I just hope I managed to convey something original. Haha I guess we will see :)

Thanks so much bluepurple, I feel much better after hearing that, and your right. SATs aren’t everything, I feel I have a lot to offer and I think that’s what’s gonna help me. Which date did you guys choose? I choose Sept. date bc Im so anxious to go lol.

Yeah, my SAT scores are horrendous but I’m putting them down just in case. (1980 total) Yeeeah.

I’m applying for september! Maybe I’ll see you guys there :)

200 word essay is soooo short though.

lol I heard it doesn’t matter if you go over 200. a friend of mine at amherst told me hers went over 200 and it was fine; she got in. So I did the same.

beatfreaks: If you bring new offerings to the table I’d say you have as good a chance as anyone It is a diversity weekend after all.

Prism: I also applied for September! Haha I hope that pool isn’t more competitive I was turned off by the October weekend because it’s right before the early action deadline.

And 200 words was a difficult limit. Didn’t dare go over though :P

Hahahah well hopefully they wont pick on the word limit; anyways I’ll be seeing you guys if we get in; who knows maybe we’ll be classmates too. Can’t wait. :)

While Amherst prides itself on diversity, they also must maintain the high academic standards that the school is known for. That said, I’m sure each of you are strong candidates as far as leadership, personality, and uniqueness are concerned, but SAT scores do matter to an extent. Just keep that in mind.

I went to DivOH, and each year they do a skit called Voices of the Class, in which they read/make fun of excerpts from the 200 word essays of kids who were accepted for the weekend. Definitely be a little outrageous in your writing!

I hope I get picked for this :] I applied a while back in May. My SATs are bad too (1820) so don’t worry :p

Brick2012…lol I should have learnt about making fun of essays sooner lol I would have made a neat one haha; my essay was 224 words I think, but IT’S ok some other DivOH kid told me so I went with it. Hopefuly its no biggy.

I’m sure the word count won’t be a big deal.

How many students do they invite? because I know its only 200 slots.

Well people apply, but not everyone will get in. Financial need is the priority though.

In my D’s session at DivOH, there were many students who were without ANY financial need as well as some with full financial need, and everything in between.

Well, I believe in your session then not many financial needy students applied; as far as I know, and as far as I think, if someone had the money to visit the campus, then they would! Diversity is the important, financial need is also important, but also being a potential Amherst student is important. I believe GA2112mom is referring to that potential, but nothing is certain; I was merely pointing out the SOLE reason for DivOH. I find it ridiculous for some rich dude to apply to this program and get accepted, unless the applicant pool was not filled with needy students, or students that were just not an amherst fit. Correct me if Im wrong.
