My sister is thinking about taking geometry over her 8th-9th grade summer. Will it show up on her high school transcript?

anyone???/

where is she taking the courses? high school or college?

Depends on the school. I know kids with classes from sixth grades on their HS transcript because that’s when they started their language or HS math. But I’ve learned from cc that not every place does this. You need to ask the school.

There are a number of things that can happen.
- it may not be on the HS transcript. If it’s an HS course it probably will.
- it may show as a HS credit on a transcript, but without a grade.
- it may be on the HS transcript with a grade.

Even if a grade is on the transcript some colleges may choose to ignore it.

HS credit courses that I took in middle school (algebra I and foreign language) showed up on my HS transcript. Pretty much all Bs, and it pulled my GPA down a point. I had my counselor mention that in my recommendation, and things turned out fine.

You need to ask at the high school. We cannot answer your question.

Regardless of wether or not it does show up, it would help to take it. She could take harder math sooner, and that looks good.

Probably not. Usually only grades from 9-12 are sent to colleges. You might want to confirm with a counselor at your school though.

She should talk to the Guidance Dept at her new hs to see how it is reported on the transcript. Some hs’s will not allow incoming freshman to take classes over the summer unless they are repeating a class. Even with this information, until she decides on the universities she wants to apply to she will not know how THEY view this information. If she calls a few of the Iveys now, they may have changed their policy by the time she applies.
The main benefit of taking the class is the faster math tract she will be on. That will far outweigh a possible ‘B’ in the class.
