Do acceptances get delivered by upbeat emails and rejections with bland, check-the-site emails?

My kid got one rejection and one acceptance news so far from via two quite different emails.

The first was a formally worded, very bland, neutral email that arrived a few days beforehand saying to all candidates to check their admission portal at such and such a date. When that date arrived, checked, and read the bad news.

In the second case, an email arrived that was more upbeat: “important news awaits!”, with a link to the admissions portal of the second school. Click, and the good news was delivered.

Do I, therefore, assume that if we get emails of the first type, don’t need to bother checking the portal, it is a rejection?

I think most schools send exactly the same email to all students, no matter the decision.

I think it depends from school to school. My D got an email with a bland notice to check a portal and it was an acceptance.
