Do any of the UC schools allow gap years?

Hello there fellow CC’ers,
I was wondering if any of the UC campuses will allow me to take a gap year. I need a year to work on self development, and am planning on living on my own for a year in another state once I graduate high school. I am a senior this year, set to graduate high school in 2010 and college in 2014.

Thank you in advance!

Of course they allow you to take a gap year.

Just remember to obtain transcripts and other necessities that you will need when you DO register for the UC.

That is excellent news for me!
Do you know how I would go about informing the school that I wish to attend that I plan on taking a gap year? Say, UCSB for instance? Depending on where I get in…

Would I tell them of my intentions before I apply or when I commit to the school?

Thank you for the quick answer.

I don’t know where BrianPh got his info, but according to this, only UCD allows deferrals. Unless you have a compelling reason.

[University of California - Counselors](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/transfer/advising/answers/applying.html#6)

Aw crap, well that sucks.
If you take a year off and then apply to UC’s, do they look at your senior grades too, or just sophomore and junior?

i think you have to reapply but make sure that you do something productive in your one “time-off” year so you can look competitive

Cal does not allow a gap year. Nor do I think UCLA does. Dunno about the others.
