I don’t know anyone.

Last year a person made it to MIT from our school…It was a huge thing. He was a cool guy, I used to run XC with him in middle school

No one.

When I ask other parents where their kids are applying (I am a parent, not a high schooler), they often still have no clue, in September and October of the senior year. When I mention the PSATs and stuff like that, they often get this blank look on their faces. I do not get it at all!

I was one of the only juniors who took the PSAT at my school this year because apparently all the other juniors were under the impression that it was just for sophomores. :(

Nope. There is one girl Ik who is in a ton of clubs at school, taken around 10 APs by the time she graduates, up till the wee hours of the morning working on stuff for yearbook even on school nights, but her SAT is “only” in the 1900-2000 range. No national awards, crazy research jobs etc. I know another couple kids with higher SATs and great GPAs, but that’s about it.

At my school the average SAT is apparently around 1350 or something. That’s the whole thing, not a 1350 with just CR+M:P, so yeah 150ish points below the national average. Most kids think I’m insane with mine in the 2100s, and my 4.0 GPA. I’m nowhere near CC material though.

I wonder what it means if your SAT score is the same as the year you were born.

I actually know a guy who found a potential drug for cystic fibrosis. He’s at Harvard now.

My friend got into Harvard EA and on scholarship. I don’t know what her scores were like but her hobby is entering contests.
Correction: Her hobby is WINNING contests. She’s unreal.

Me? Just kidding, haha.

ap calc ab in 10th grade is not good enough in my school…

that says a lot about your school…I’m taking Pre-Calc as a junior…

Math-wise, I’d say my school is pretty bad. For some reason, the county does not allow anyone to take AP Calculus until their senior year, and we have about thirty seniors out of nearly three hundred taking AP Calculus AB. Apparently, almost a third of them are failing and will not be allowed to take AP Calculus BC the upcoming semester, and several others will voluntarily drop it in order to protect their GPAs. Though, I am planing to take Calc III along with possibly O-Chem at the local community college over the summer, since I will be finally away from this idiotic county-wide calculus ban.

Im not sure, I know this one kid who is a GENUIS at English, and knows college-leveled (we’re high school freshmans) information about it. I feel really dumb compared to him, but when it comes to math I beat him :). But he is diffently going to a major college, and getting the best education; he knows how speak and write in latin, french, and can read some greek! There’s also other magical things he can do, but he is annoying ( not to be mean or anything…).

**MY HIGH SCHOOL IS THE WEIRDEST SCHOOL EVER!

It is very diverse and polarized. We have a lot students who got into Ivies and Stanford-caliber schools, while there are students who actually choose to drop out. We have students from extremely wealthy families, while we do have students that are homeless. Therefore, it’s quite hard for me to identify my level, compared to them. Am I above average or below average? But as a whole, our school put much effort into closing the gap between the competitive students and non-competitive students.

Not at all. I got rejected by Princeton and some of my friends were shocked and I was like yeah you should see the kids I’m going against.

Absolutely not. These CC’ers put even the Vale of my class to shame.

I’m serious. But it’s probably because we’re all Asian and afraid of the words “diligent” and “hardworking” showing up on the rec letters. Because everyone knows that how they get deferred or rejected.

Nope sorry

Similar to my problem. I’m pretty motivated and I’ve always done well in school, but my school seems designed to barely lift up the worst kids and ignore the kids who want to do well. I didn’t choose to live here or go to these terrible public schools, but here I am. Worse, some of the best ECs at my school are almost closed to new students because they run on cliques and not people who actually care. Anyone who attempts to change the system is just hated on until they leave. I really want to do well but I find it hard because it seems for every two steps I take forward, my school pushes me back three.

I don’t know any CC kids. My school is relatively new. I will be part of the first class to attend all four years and graduate. Last year’s class only attended three years. Some of the schools they got into followed by their class rank were: UC Berkeley(5), USC(2), Naval Academy(3), WPI(1). I’m ranked third in my class and got into Northwestern through QuestBridge. My stats are not amazing but people at my school think they are. I got a 1980 on the SAT, a 30 on the ACT, and have a 4.26 wGPA. I am applying to all the Ivy/elite schools knowing that I will most likely be rejected.
