Do any of you actually know people like people on CC?

The people on here bragging about how they have high SATs and go to parties (with alcohol by the way!) are the absolute coolest.

^^^ So cool. Those people that say “I’m cool, and smart” just prove how absolutely cool they are…

It seems impossible that someone could take five hours on the weekend to be with friends while doing a decent amount of school work. They can just do it all!

Yep. My kid’s entire school tries to be like that, which makes for difficult competition. OTOH, two kids were admitted to Harvard early admission.

Guys. Parties with ACTUAL alcohol. #2cool4skewl

Also, I still don’t know what USAMO stands for and I’ve already graduated from high school.
O___o My stats are modest. I’m only on CC to get as much info as possible. c:

How many hours they study per day ?

“Parties with ACTUAL alcohol.”

As opposed to what? Counterfeit alcohol? Capri-Sun pouches? Nail polish remover mixed with Kool-Aid?

@halcyonheather
What counts as having a life?

I don’t have friends, probably because of introversion/pathological shyness/physical unattractiveness/whatever. (I have acquaintances, but no one chooses to spend time with me when they could be doing something else.) I’m happy, though. I don’t spend all of my time on school-related stuff.

@halcyonheather !
You are an AMAZING person :slight_smile: Just BE HAPPY :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :)

@halcyonheather who in the world would ever consume Kool-Aid and nail polish remover!? haha only in America.

But I know some kids in my school use CC and they fit the stereotype perfectly with their outstanding Ecs, near perfect or perfect SAT score, and 4.0 GPA. Shockingly, most of these people got deferred from the Ivy League schools and MIT so I guess they have the right to be nervous.

yes, I do know a handful of kids like those on CC - they’re unbearable, to say the least.

Capri-sun. <33333333333

yup pretty much my whole school.

Like 20 people LOL.

Only a few people from my school go to Ivy Leagues every year. Certainly no one from my grade will get into one, but there is a senior at my school that got accepted EA for Harvard.

I don’t think anyone from my school has went to Harvard ever. There might have been a kid in my dad’s class, but that was 1970. (My parents are really flipping old.)

I knew a few people who went to extremely prestigious universities. They were pretty normal people aside from having lofty goals and lots of motivation.

@Adodie
Got it. : )
Thanks so much

At our school, there are about 10-12 students with me that are in contention for ivies/ivy equivalents. Most of the time, they aren’t CC level, but stats wise, they usually end up with the typical 4.0/2250. That 10-12 is where the competition is; it’s where we all are aiming high. After that, it drops off pretty steeply.

But no, we very rarely have someone that can get into Harvard. We usually get 8-9 Cornells, and maybe 1-2 Columbia’s. One kid last year got into Wharton, but that’s it.

I’d say there are about 20 in my class that end up with 5.0+ GPAs. Probably 100+ with 4.5s. It’s absolutely nuts how competitive we are. It’s a class of 650 kids as well.

My school has plenty of GPA-obsessed sycophants, but so many have terrible personal qualities and think that holding seven or eight officer positions is the ticket to an Ivy. Little do they know that such a mentality may, potentially, make them distinguished within the context of my high school, but sacrificing passion and genuine interest for “app building” usually reflects poorly in the admissions committees of most top universities. They don’t have outstanding ECs, just boatloads of service hours and an endless list of clubs designed for the college application.

Regardless, my counseling office lauds them as superior to people like me, who choose to excel mainly in opportunities available outside of school (and in things I genuinely care about), but to no great success. So far this year, HYP acceptances have equaled nil, even with some of our “best applicants”.

Basically, I don’t know people as stellar as those on CC because those I personally know are mere shadows under the light of some of the vibrant, amazing individuals I have come across on this forum. Yes, some CC’ers may be pedantic, but at least most show some sort of interest in their activities and realize that extolment in my HS ≠ success in a college app.

That said, our school has produced some stellar applicants that gain acceptance to the majority of top schools they apply to. Of course, the rest of the student body sees them as some god even though they are simply smart and have applied themselves to interests they genuinely care about.
