I took AP World History a couple months ago when I was in 8th grade. Although usually I am a good test taker, I was weak in the free response part of the AP so I got a 3. Will colleges be able to see my 3 from 8th grade? And will it hurt my chances of going into a highly selective school? I am definitely stronger in STEM courses than the humanities, and plan on majoring in something medical or mathematical. Will it affect my chances of going into a school like MIT?
Yes colleges will see it if you submit the AP report. You have 3 more years of test taking so one grade won’t be that relevant.
As mentioned above, colleges will see the score. However, regardless if you took the test in 8th grade or 11th, AP scores are primarily used for credit and/or placement and carry little to no weight in the admissions decisions.
I had no idea you could take AP classes before high school…
Yes, see the <9th Grade column at http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/research/2014/Prog-Summary-Report-2014.pdf
Most are AP Spanish and some World History; just a few of each of the other APs. Most are probably homeschooled and don’t really have 4 years of high school left at that point. AP Physics C E&M in 8th grade; hard for me to imagine, and my kid took AP CS in 8th.
