Do awards like "perfect attendence" make a difference?

I was wondering, do things like "perfect attendance," "principles' honor roll" "GATE" and such "honors" make a difference on your application? My friends all put these on their UC applications.

I mean none of the awards are really that spectacular because so many people at school recieve them. Do they help? Or do they just look like a pathetic attempt to try to make the "awards" section look less empty?

In addition, I've been in a lot of clubs, but a majority of them I've been in for like 1 year and left because they were unorganized. It's better to just list the clubs that I've participated in longest rather than the try to list as many as I can right?

Thanks.

For perfect attendance award...nope. I don't think that factors in much. Like you said, "everyone" gets it. That doesn't distinguish you from "everyone."

About your clubs...again, it won't help to just list out. There has to be clubs you were really dedicated to; and whether you were some sort of a leader for these clubs. Staying in clubs for about 1 year and leaving shows the deans that you are uncommitted and only attended these clubs to get as many activities as you can.

Only about five people at my school actually have perfect attendance. It's rather rare where I come from. That being said, it's probably not a great award to list.

It can't possibly hurt. I could see it possibly helping. Definitely list it. Why wouldn't you?.

it might make it seem like you have nothing better to do with your life, or that you have no better awards to list.

Dont list it for UC schools, theres only space for 5... list something more interesting.

They can't possibly hurt you. Perfect attendance is nothing to scoff at. It shows that you care about school and you are dedicated to your academics. Only a few students in the average high school earns that award. Now like many others have said, there are many other, better awards to write down, but if you have any space left over on your application, put it down for sure! There's no need to sell yourself short when it comes to college applications.

Obviously it's not going to hurt you, but in terms of having a positive impact...no, it's not really going to make a difference at all.

If there's space, you may as well put it. Colleges like punctuality? Haha. Unless there's limited space, go for it!
