Wrapping up this first sophomore semester, I have 3 B+'s (all in honors/AP classes) and 3 A/A-'s. With that, my weighted GPA is 4.33 (out of a 5.0 scale, of course). I was primarily wondering: Do colleges care for B+'s, or do colleges view them as B’s? To specify, I am talking about ivy-leagues.
Its fine, colleges would rather see B’s in AP/honors classes than A’s in regular classes. Dont worry about it! Same with me (B’s in AP) You will go to a great college and so will I!
I think a B+ is the same thing as a B- in terms of college admission GPA. But a B+ looks better (not sure if looks mean anything though)
On the regular 4.0 GPA scale (not used by my school), it goes like this:
A+ 4.0
A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
F 0
I’m not sure if the college admissions office converts your GPA into their GPA scale, but most likely not. If your school has
A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0,
then the B+ has no meaning, other than the fact that it shows you got a high B.
@writer80 I like the way you think! I have also heard that colleges prefer a honors/AP B over a regular A.
@ACBells yeah I figured that a B still carries its 4.0 weight (unless regular), a little reassuring for those with B-'s
@hhjjlala By regular GPA scale are you referring to how colleges weigh grades?
if your unweighted is around 3.9 by the end of high school, I suppose a few Bs wouldn’t hurt if you’re strong in other aspects. (don’t know about weighted gpa)
Awe thank you! Best of luck to you!
Ivy leagues really want to see advanced classes (honors/AP) AND A’s. What’s your UW GPA? Top colleges care for that more usually
@neonerudite well currently it’s a 3.5, as this is my first semester of sophomore year. Most of the colleges I am looking at do not care for freshman year’s grades edit I am not aiming for Ivy-Leagues, I am actually looking at some of the better UCs, like UCLA and UC Berkeley. I just was wondering if I even have a shot at Ivy leagues lol
