i went to cal poly starting in fall 2011.. i just dropped out after fall 2012 quarter.. i dropped out because i realized the major i was going for wasn't what i wanted to do and i couldn't switch because it's hard to switch majors at Cal Poly especially when you don't have a high GPA. Now i'm at the local CC in San Luis Obispo and i want to transfer to UCSB after Spring 2014. My question do my CSU classes count for UC credit? For like all the general ed classes i took/calc 3&4 etc. Would UCSB accept those classes and if so what i would i have to take at the CC? Like would i still have to complete IGETC by CC standards or for example would the english class i took at poly replace the english on IGETC. Also i plan on tagging would the CSU classes i took count for my TAG gpa.. that is if UC even accepts it.
I know its a lot and i really need help! Any feedback would be appreaciated

You should feel honored. I made an account just to respond to you.

[assist.org will be your second best friend as a cc student, the first being your counselor. Assist has a list of all transferable courses from one cc/csu/uc to any other cc/csu/uc.

Here is a direct link for SLO to UCSB](http://www.assist.org). All you need to do is select the major you are interested in transferring into, and a list of all classes that you can transfer for that major will be shown. Then do the same with your cc to UCSB. That will show you transferrable courses from your cc to UCSB for your major.

In regards to IGETC it really depends on your major. Yes, classes from SLO should transfer towards your completion of IGETC, but some majors are adviced not to complete IGETC, mainly engineering majors.

It’s a lot to explain, so I seriously advice you to see a counselor at your cc. They’ll explain everything, and help plan out your classes so that you can be certain that you’re on the right path to transfer.

A lot of your classes are going to transfer over to a UC. Most lower division and general GE classes will likely transfer. Think of courses that are offered universally in college: lower division math and science courses, freshman english, history, etc will likely transfer. It’s really courses with more specific curricula that are questionable. There’s no way of really finding exactly every class that does or doesn’t articulate and your best bet is probably to call the UCSB admissions office and go over your transcript with an admission officer. As mentioned above ASSIST.org is a great resource, some of your CSU classes should be listed with articulation to UCSB. For those that aren’t you can try pulling up the articulation agreement for your CC and CSU SLO and then your CC and UCSB and comparing them side by side. If they articulate to the same course at your CC, they’ll likely articulate between the CSU and the UCs.

Know that your CSU GPA is going to factor into your admission determination and they’ll take your cumulative GPA and units from both CSU and CC combined. So if you had a low GPA in CSU, you’re really going to need to pull a high GPA in CC to even out your cumulative GPA. For UCSB you’ll probably want to apply with a GPA at least between a 3.2-3.5 depending on our major. Because you’ve attended a four year university you’ll also be restricted to a unit cap, a maximum amount of units you can reach before you’re ineligible for admission. The unit cap is typically between 80-90 semester units, each UC having their own respective policy. For UCSB their unit cap is 90 semester units (135 quarter units) of combined CC and four year university credit. So don’t reach more than 90 units of combined CC and CSU credit if you wish to transfer to UCSB. In terms of IGETC, your CC will determine if you meet the IGETC requirements not the UCs. You have to send your transcript over to your CC and go over it with a counselor to see which courses they’ll accept to certify you for IGETC. Any courses that are transferable are going to count for TAG, but know you have to finish at least 30 units at California CC to be eligible for TAG to UCSB. Also for certain majors you have to finish specific pre-req courses which will be listed on Assist.org under your major and CC. I think that’s everything. Just make sure you’re aware of Assist.org and get in contact with your CC counselor and a UCSB admission officer as soon as you can. Good luck.

Re: [ASSIST Prompt Page](http://web1.assist.org/web-assist/articulationAgreement.do?ia=CPSLO&ay=12-13&oia=UCSB&dir=2)

That link is the reverse direction from what the OP wants (i.e. it is UCSB -> CPSLO, not CPSLO -> UCSB). It appears that ASSIST does not have listings for CPSLO -> UCSB. If you transfer to UCSB, the courses will need to be evaluated individually.
