Hi, I’m a current Cal Poly undergrad and trying to take summer courses at a local community college down in San Diego and am confused as to how to pick classes that apply. Are there any other online resources other than assist.org? Did you guys struggle with getting credit for all your cc courses? The assist website is pretty limiting to figuring what specifically schools offer that will for sure apply to Poly. I’m majoring in Landscape Architecture if that makes any of a difference and looking to get my D1 and D2 GEs out of the way. Thanks!
Hello polystudent. Your community college should have a person or office that deals with transfers and should be able to tell you which classes match; see if you can get a walk-in appointment.
Polystudent, in addition to talking with a transfer counselor, the class schedule (online or in print) at your community college probably notes whether the classes you are interested in transfer to CSU as D1, D2 or whatever; so, check the listing for each class being offered.
Polystudent, I’m not sure if you still need help with the GEs, but I looked at the website for San Deigo County community college system and they list the articulation agreements under ‘transfer’, then ‘articulation’ for the various colleges. It appears that you get D1 credit for: Anthro 103, 107, 110, 200, 205, 210, 215, or Chicano Studies 201; you get D2 credit for Econ 120 or 121. I’m not sure what is being offered this summer… However, I would still check with a transfer counselor, if you can, to confirm and see if you need any paperwork, etc. Good Luck!
Assist.org is the best to ensure the community class you are taking transfers to CP. You need to look up about 7 classes for D1 and 5 for D2, but if you check CP/your community college/CP Dept/History, that will bring up half the D1/D2 classes, since many are History classes. Try a D2. Check your curriculum sheet to make sure all D1/D2 classes count for your major.
Up our way, it was somewhat limited, since there are fewer summer offerings. No D1s transferred to CP.
@polystudent - Read through this - http://www.calpoly.edu/~cosamac/pdfs/Assist_help.pdf - in addition with using Assist.org. Note that Cal Poly doesn’t recommend taking D1 classes at a CC.
