Do clubs/extracurriculars have a large presense?

Are clubs totally underground to people who are not in them? or do clubs and outside students engage in activites and perfomances well etc. also is campus life in general fun and community based?

we have the #1 quality of life and that steams from happy undergrads. Clubs in general are fairly well publicized (see the KTRU stuff :D)

A lot of clubs do host events. Flyers are always around the serveries where we eat and in the Student center.

While there are some smaller clubs that fly under the radar, some clubs such as ADVANCE, the BSA and Rice Consulting Club are well known across campus.

From what I’ve heard, there are also opportunities to build up clubs and help them reach out to more students. Leadership opportunities awaiting new leaders …

Yep, due to the small size and general apathy, there are plenty of leadership positions in the student organizations. Also depends on which ones,

Rice Review is really laid back and open to new people taking on leadership positions.
It’s really easy to publish in the Thresher and the Standard.

Whether apathy’s a factor or not – it’s entirely possible for a freshman or sophomore to take on a leadership role on campus. Likely, the students tapping these opportunities were already leading clubs during their high school years.

I just think it’s exciting to know that whether you’re re-energizing a club with new direction, or starting a new group, it’s possible to step into leadership roles at Rice – without waiting till you’re an upperclassmen, like at many other top universities.

And, along with the fun and experience of running a club, leadership experience helps make resumes stand out.
