Most colleges confirm receipt of your application either by email or snail mail. Email is the more frequent response method these days. If you haven’t received a response from a college by mid-to-late January, I suggest calling the admissions offices of the schools in question and verify that they have, in fact, received your app. Schools will also notify you if anything is missing from your app, but that may come a bit later.

some colleges just take a little longer to mail out notifications. I have only received about 2 out of 7 as well, but especially since I don’t live in America, I’m not really fretting yet. Besides if anything does happen to be missing, they will at the very least notify you about that.
