Do colleges care about WEIGHTED GPA??

I already know they don't.

My problem is that my school ranks students (privately) by their weighted GPA. And it is so freaking unfair because my out-of-country transferred credits are NOT weighted (the classes were hard as hell), pushing my WGPA down to 4.2. I had straight A's last year and am taking all AP classes, so by this year if I still manage to have A's I will have WGPA of 4.5

I'm pretty sure my school reports students' ranks, so I think I will be in the 20%. That is not at all good for colleges :(

Um. That sucks, but there isn’t much that can be done about it…

Your weighted GPA is high, and if you explain that your transferred credits weren’t ranked properly, that combined with your consistent academic achievement (wow that sounded really smart there) clearly proves that you’re capable.

It won’t be a dealbreaker.

Weighted GPA is arguably the most important part of your application (combined with class rank ).

Wouldn’t they consider your actual grades along with the rigor of your classes? Different schools have different scales, and some schools don’t weight GPA at all, so I don’t see how they could make a direct comparison between different weighted GPAs.

Normally each individual college reevaluates your GPA to put everyone on the same playing field. Also when you apply you should write an essay explaining what happened.

You weighted GPA doesn’t matter at all in the college process. It all about how high your UNWEIGHTED GPA is. UW is the cumulative grade of your classes without the extra points from AP classes, and it is the GPA colleges will focus their attention on the most.

In reality, college have their own system of recalculating the GPA, so focusing maintaining a high UW (3.6-4.0) is way more important than whatever your Weighted is. Yes that does mean getting a B or C in an AP, DE, or Honors class can hurt you depending on your grades.

Good luck! Hopes this helps!
