Do colleges care if your ACT/SAT score goes down?/Should I retake a 33?

I took it in June and got 35 R, 31 M, 34 E, 33 S which is a total of 33
However, it was the day after finals and as a result, (though I have been studying for some time) I had taken a hiatus from studying for about a month. I think if I retook it, I could potentially bring it up to a 34+ (as I was only a point away). However, there is always a chance I could go down. How much of an issue would that be?
Should I study over the summer and take it again or should I focus on writing application essays?
I’m applying to several top 25 schools and I think that the general consensus is that 34+ is ideal.
Thanks for any advice

Zero.

Both  Since you were so close, if you did not retake, you will always have a sense of “woulda, coulda, shoulda” IMO.

Thanks!

I had a 33.25, which was so close to rounding to a 34, so I retook it to try to get at least a 34 superscore and somehow managed to get a 35 composite. With my experience, I’d recommend taking it again if you think you have a chance of improvement

Congrats on your score! If I ended up with a 35, I would be so happy.

I had a very similar experience to @Trenteroo, though I believe I had a 32.75 on my first try. I had 36 E, 35 R, 33 M… and 27 S. The science was far worse than what I had been scoring in practice, so I studied it exclusively. I was scared that I would go down or stay the same as well, but I retook the test in April and got a 35 C with 36 E, 35 R, 33 M… and 34 S. I would suggest concentrating your efforts on math; I think subscores between 33 and 36 have more to do with that day’s test difficulty than your individual preparation. A lot of it just comes down to luck on the day of the test!

Thanks for the advice!

I would retake it for a second time if only a point away from the 34. Just wouldn’t do it a third time since it seems like some kids think SAT/ACT tests are an EC

Thanks! Based on the advice, I’m definitely going to retake.
