I took the February 2019 ACT. I received a composite of 35 (34.5) with a 33E, 34S, 35M, 36R, and a 10 on the writing. Should I retake it to bring up my writing and english score? Or should I move on and do other things with my junior year? I am applying to really selective schools next year, and I’m hoping to get into Cornell. Will the 33 in English, 10 in Writing, and the technically 34.5 affect my application? Thanks!
I’ll bite - you have plenty of time, so if the expense of taking another test isn’t prohibitive, retake it. If you improve your Enlish portion and apply to any schools that superscore, you’ll benefit. Just be sure to do every practice test you can get your hands on and maybe get some coaching from someone who knows the tricks of these tests. You may get a 36 and that will feel great to report on your Common App.
Once you get into the 32-33 range you often meet qualifications in that area for top universities. Keep in mind that thousands of applicants have scores like this and have to differentiate themselves. Your already a qualified applicant with that score. Now is the time to work on differentiating yourself. Good luck.
You’ll focus so much on bringing up your writing & English that your Math or Science are bound to drop. My daughter took it 3 times and she ended up with the same score each time. Unless you have a LOT of free time and the extra studying/testing won’t stress you out, stick with the score you got - as @GoCubsGo719 said, it’s more than good enough!
