do colleges care?

hey everyone,

just trying to gauge opinions on adding honor societies to the activities section. If I have six strong ECs, is it worth it to add NHS, Math HS, Science HS, Social Studies HS, Latin HS, etc. to the activities portion to reach 10? I genuinely do commit time to them with tutoring and presentations (some more than others), but are they redundant to add since they are already listed on my transcript? do colleges even care about honor societies to begin with?

what are you guys doing?

thanks and may the common app gods look down on you with favor!

btw- can someone interested in programming/web design make it a personal goal to graduate and get a job fixing the travesty that is the common app’s formatting? stressed seniors (and adcoms sick of trying to decipher freaking abbreviations and cut-off sentences) will one day praise you!

The only one I would even consider would be NHS. But to be honest, this will not make a difference. That is, an admissions officer will not say “Well, I’m not sure… Oh, but he’s part of NHS and bunch of honor societies, so let’s accept him.”

You could give them space as one EC on the list and say"See additional information", then put a heading called “Honor Societies” in the additional info section, and bullet out each one, maybe with a brief sentence for those with a significant time commitment about what do with them.

Unless you have significant leadership positions for the honor societies, I would lean towards no.
