do colleges focus much on ap scores for admissions?

like would i get penalized for a 3 on something thats not my major?

I don't think it would hurt you at all. You might check out the following thread in this forum:

"College care more about SAT II's thatn AP?"

AP exam scores are not that important. SAT II scores are much more important. If you really blow an AP test, you don't have to have the score reported. However, some high schools put the AP scores on the high school transcripts.

the only reason AP scores may be useful/unuseful on the application is that if you get an A in the class and a 2 on the test..then they will think you had an easy class..but if you et a B in the class and a 5 on the test then they will see you had a hard class

AP scores will be more imp. for the colleges that actually offer to give college credit for students scoring 4's or 5's. But it will really be more of a placement or credit issue than an admissions issue usually.

AP scores are not even officially reported to the colleges you select when you take the tests until early July - you've had your admission since mid-April, most likely. They are used for course placement or credit - have never heard of an admission being rescinded because you got bad AP scores.

Unless evaboo is a junior, beachy...what you said is true for senior year testing, but colleges will see the other scores before admission (unless you don't send them or pay to have CB withhold them)

mea culpa, gloaming...unless said junior is like my S & D and nearly all their friends, who took APs as sophs and jrs. and had them sent to schools they ended up not even taking a serious look at when it came time to narrow the field - they were so not into the college search when they took the tests, I think they just used a mental dartboard to pick school names out of the air! In fact, I think a couple of them actually did not enter any school names as sophs, so the scores came only to them (and the high school?).
