Do colleges have a preference to Calculus or Probability and Statistics during your senior year?

I was wondering, I have completed all the required math courses my school offers for graduation, and currently need to choose between Calculus or Probability and Statistics. When it comes to Calculus I currently have a C- and am not super motivated, however for Prob/Stat, I am motivated and perform well. I currently have an A in Prob/Stat. I am dropping one of the courses as I need more time to complete work for classes and could use the study hall.

I am looking at applying to University of Miami, Tulane, University of Florida, UNC Chapel Hill, Indiana Bloomington, Wisconsin, Penn State, and University of Oregon.

Calc is definitely the way to go for those schools, however, a C- is not. You might consider keeping Stats and the A unless you see a way to turn around the C- really fast. Top colleges want rigor, but they also want As or at least a B, the C- will hurt your case more than taking Stats instead.

Thank you. I’d also like to add that throughout my High School tenure, I’ve had an A- average in mathematics. With Calculus, I think it’ll be hard to raise my grade in the class and maintain an A- average, though I’d be fine with a B+ (but I also think that’ll be hard to obtain). My counselor is advising me to stay in Calculus, but I see Prob/Stat as the more business related class, as well as it being a class I am more motivated in and perform well in.
