As title says, do colleges know which rank they are when they get listed for NCM? For example, if I put Princeton over MIT would MIT see that and account for that in their "level of interest" ?

nope

No. Colleges will know that you ranked them, but they will not know where they stand in your rankings. What happens is that each college you ranked receives your application, reviews it, and if they like you, accept you. It is possible for more than one ranked college to “accept you,” but in the end, you would only be matched to the school that stands higher on your ranking list.

In other words, say your ranking is:
- Stanford, 2) Brown, 3) Emory, 4) USC.

If both Emory and USC accept you, then you will be matched with Emory. You will never even find out that you were accepted by USC.

In short, no, colleges make the decision without knowing how you ranked your match schools.
