Hi, I was wondering if colleges look at your senior year for grades or what classes you are taking? I know that you apply before or at the beginning of your senior year, so do they look or is it just 10th/11th?

Yes unless you apply early action or early decision. And I think some like the UCs dont look at them, but most will.

So if I was going to take 2 AP classes for the first time, they would take that into consideration?

Yes, because they'll know what classes you're taking just not the grades you have in them.

Always. They will at least want to know what your senior year courseload is like. Extremely important. And your first semester or quarter grades.

Senior year is second most important right behind junior year as far as course load and grades go.

wait so if you apply ED they won't see first term grades?

but im sure they get grades later on

yeah but by that time, you will have already been accepted/declined, and unless you compeletely tank (ie get Cs if you are a straight-A/B student), then they likely wont rescind it.

...would that be after they made a decision?

Okay well i guess it depends when the term ends/decision is made. For me, I know my EA/ED acceptances all before Dec 25th, and the 1st semester doesnt end until Jan...

Yes they do, however, how much may depend on the school and your relative strenght.

ED schools ask for first 1/4 grades, which are usually around end of October, early November. You have to have all of your (student) stuff in at the end of October, but your HS can (must?) send in your first 1/4 or trimester grades before they make a decision.

well I think if the colleges see you are very outstanding they may accept you right away. if they need something more to consider, they will look at the senior grades.

most of the time colleges look at your senior year many times. They look at the courses that you have selected. They request mid year grades, some quarter grades. They want the full year grades.

yeah, I've heard colleges at least look at your senior year schedule. I've heard some can even look at the grades THROUGH the senior year, and decide who to accept from wait-listed, who to rescind acceptance etc.

I've had low-mid 90s freshman-junior year with just honors classes and this year im in the high 80s with mostly AP classes, do you think this looks okay?

I did not apply to any institutions early, which means I am applying to all colleges regular decision. My transcript does not list first quarter grades (it only has the final grade); it only lists the type of course that the student is taking. Would colleges still request my first quarter grades even if they are not on my transcript?

i hope not…cuz im like failing senior year

Wasn’t there a poster who was accepted to Yale and got an email from them toward the end of the year asking why he’d gotten a couple of Bs the second semester?

Colleges do care.
