I've been wondering about this for a few days, although I'm not too concerned. Have colleges ever been known to look at an applicant's attendance record to see if they're good candidates for school?

I personally right now have 2 "unexcused absences" on my record. They are both errors, and I'm trying to get them cleared up, but I was wondering if something like that could ever play a role in anything for colleges.

how do they know your attendance records?
don't you have a separate attendance and counseling offices?

I know that at my school, attendance prints on the transcript, even though we have seperate attendance & counseling offices.

Question: I was extremely sick my sophomore year and missed 97 days of school, all while keeping my grades in the mostly-A range. Could that help me in the admissions process?

nathan, I know a girl who also missed several months of school after being injured by falling off a horse. She had to stay home, and was tutored for a couple of hours per week. She asked one of her teachers who was aware of the situation to write her letter of recommendation. The sudent told me that the teacher wrote about how she kept her grades up, and taught herself much of the material while healing at home. The teacher turned it into a positive situation. The applicant was very happy with her acceptances.

NO... THEY DON'T CARE...otherwise all the seniors who skipped crazy 2nd semester (I never skipped before in my life but 2nd semester.. I skipped 2nd hour like 8 times) would get their college decision rescinded. Don't worry and chill out ^_^

hahaha 2 unexcused absences...hahahaha u are worried over that. Get a life. This yr (im a jr) i have 20 some tardies and about 5 unexcused absences...NOONE cares about that kind of stuff. College admissions workers know whats important and what isnt. Dont waste ur time sorting out and clearing up ur absence issue

Well, I think it's good to try change incorrect absences anyways, because I know certain summer jobs inquire about a person's attendance record. They don't want lazy workers who will be late or ditch! Plus, there's the fact that I've been marked as cutting when I wasn't, and I want to save as many cuts as possible for the end of the year. ;)

It seems like there isn't anything I can do about either of them though, so oh well.

I had 76 tardies last year... so I sure hope they don't look into it. But if things come down to the wire, it will probably be a disadvantage. I don't skip, though, I'm just not a morning person.

haha and i thought i was bad with like 16 absences (we don't have excused or unexcused). and the only reason i had that many was because i broke my foot and then later i shattered a fingertip. plus a few college visits.

Hmm, I know that if you have 16 absences or 32 tardies or a combination of both [tardy = 1/2 absence] then you aren't allowed to graduate unless you have a medical excuse, but yeah, of course I'm the weird kid who went for perfect attendance five years in a row, but hmmm.

Ahh probably, we are a public school so a student can amass no more than 16 absences without a damn good reason [sorry forgot to add on, not only is medical absence allowed but so is being incarcerated since two kids were easily in jail for a month, so...] or else s/he will lose all credits that would have been earned upon graduation for that year, and thus will have to retake the selected courses for that level.

wow that's harsh. 16 days isn't that many. but i guess if medical absences are allowed it's not that bad. but still... deaths in the family and such can result in a lot of absences
