Do colleges look only at the overall GPA or your GPA throughout the years?

I messed up really badly during my first two years of Highschool and eventually got expelled (does not look good). During the course of those two years, I passed like three classes with D/Cs and failed all the rest. So, it is safe to say my freshman and sophomore year GPA SUCKS. Its not even a two. However, I got a major slap in the face and got back on track. I redid my sophomore year and got all A’s, all A’s my junior year (at a different school), and hopefully I am going to get all A’s my senior year as well. I also have taken three college classes and made A’s in them. My cumulative GPA will never be able to reach over 3.5 no matter how many more classes I take, but that doesn’t reflect my determination or current level of knowledge. So, my question is, will colleges look at my ■■■■■■ cumulative GPA then toss me to the side, or will they look at my yearly GPA and see the progress? I messed up, but I realized that and did a complete 360… I just want them to realize that as well. BTW, I am aiming to get into a good college such as UCLA. I am working on my ACT/SAT scores, and currently have a 30/ 1950 (and I participate in volunteer work as well). What are my chances of getting into a good college?

They will look at the overall GPA and the trend in grades. The UCs won’t look at freshman year, but they will surely look at sophomore year.
