My school doesn’t have weighted averages while many other schools in my area have weighted averages. I have taken 11 aps and 2 post aps but my gpa is a 93.87 which is lower than the gpa average of top colleges. Will my chances be lower for selective colleges because of my gpa?
It shouldn’t hurt you. First of all each HS sends a school profile along with the transcript so it will be evident to admissions officers what level classes you have taken and that your HS doesn’t weight the GPA. And many colleges do recalculate GPA.
FWIW our public HS doesn’t do weighted GPAs and students do very well in terms of college admissions.
That’s a strange scale. To be fair, I’ve also seen GPAs out of 5 and 6 (weighted of course). So yeah, colleges will recalculate it. I don’t think most are as stringent as the UCs are.
I would imagine many do (Brown certainly does). If you were a college and one high school had a GPA scale where PE was weighted 5x as much as every other class, wouldn’t you want to calculate the GPA of those applicants differently?
Without restating GPA on a 4.0 scale, colleges would have difficulty comparing students from different high schools. Each college might have a slightly way of calculating a weighted GPA but it would be the norm
Yes
