Do colleges wait for test scores to come?

For most college applications, there is a section where you report your ACT/SAT score and a section where you state when you will take another. I am going to retake the ACT this year and take a SAT and am wondering if you have to wait for that September ACT/October SAT to come (via online or via mail) and then write it on the application before they look at it. The main thing I want to know is that if you're retaking the ACT/SAT and state that on the application, will the colleges wait for the ACT/SAT score come via the testing agency before looking at the application?

Colleges will tell you on their website which SAT is the latest one they will consider in the admissions process. So yeah, they will wait until after that SAT comes before making a decision on you.

Yes, they will wait for the scores before deciding, but you can apply before you take the last test.

Depends:

Most colleges require official scores from testing agency and if you are applying now but not ordering any official scores sent, and did not designate the particular college to receive your score on the app you made to take the prior tests, they will not even review app until the official scores are in, meaning when you take the tests in the future, you can then send the official scores and those later tests will be considered.

If it is a regular admissions college which makes admissions decisions in February, March, or April and you are applying for regular admission, they will not review your app until January at the earliest. Thus, for any of those, even if you have already ordered official scores for your prior tests sent to them, you can still apply and later submit scores that will be considered.

There are many colleges that have rolling admissions (meaning they make decisions as apps are received, e.g., apply in September and you may get a decision by October), and some of those colleges accept self-reported scores on the app. In that case, a decision could be made before you submit future scores. However, the only colleges I am aware of that have both rolling admissions and accept self-reported scores on the app are not first tier colleges, i.e., you are talking about colleges where a 22 ACT or 1050 SAT is usually enough to be admitted.

Do you think there could be any problems with any of these colleges (remember I am taking the September ACT and October SAT , and I have listed for the testing agency to send the scores to each of the colleges) :

Purdue (Rolling) : Their application for the student says just to report the dates of past & future SAT/ACT dates. The counselor section has a part in which they report the actual SAT/ACT scores.

I want Purdue to judge me based off my new ACT score and not the old one, so will they wait until the September ACT score comes to them (because I listed the date of the future test) or will they judge off my counselor's report? (I don't know how soon the school receives the ACT score but by mail it is like 4-6 weeks)

Wisconsin (Rolling) & Michigan (ER ; Oct 31) : Their application has the student just list the dates of past & future tests. There is no place anywhere on the application where a test score has to be admitted so I assume they will just wait for the score to come via the agencies.

Illinois (EA ; Nov 15) : This is the biggest of my concerns as the Illinois application (from 06-07) has a section where the student reports the test score for only 1 test. I want to submit my September ACT and my October SAT (if need be) so am I going to have to wait for those scores to come in by mail/online or do I just have to write my past scores? The problem with the 1st option is that the full ACT w/writing and SAT scores dont come back until like 4-6 weeks after (unless checking online but the writing section is not included) and the 2nd option, I don't want those scores to be the one they judge.

Northwestern (ED ; Nov 1): Their application (common app) has the student list past & future tests so I assume they will also wait until the scores come in.

Could you guys give me advice on what to do and when to send each application ; Thanks for all of the responses.
