I have 3.6 weighted GPA and 1950 SAT, but I got a D in calculus junior year. I got a 4 on the Calculus AP exam though. So does passing the AP exam make up for failing the class? Will CSUs accept me? I'm retaking Calculus right now in a community college but I'm not sure if I can pass. Thanks.

It’s never good to make a D but I think they could let it slide. You might want to retake SAT though. Chance Back?

Also write an amazing essay

AP scores are self-reported and don’t hold much weight. Also, there is no pass/fail in AP tests really. I wouldn’t say the good outweighs the bad.

The D will still count in your GPA for CSUs. But the AP calculus score >= 3 will fulfill the math subject requirement for CSUs (see page 6 of http://www.calstate.edu/sas/onestopkiosk/documents/AdmissionHandbook.pdf ).

CSUs other than CPSLO admit based on the CSU eligibility index calculated as described here:

GPA for CSU purposes is calculated as described here:

Please read the following about CSU campuses and majors which have higher admission standards than the minimum eligibility index of 2900.
