Do either UT or GA Tech have talented MT programs?

I will be attending one of these 2 colleges next year as an engineering major, but I hope to play in musicals in the pit orchestra (i play the trumpet). Does anyone have any knowledge of these 2 programs if they even exist?

University of Texas does not offer Musical Theatre degree, but they’re Department of Theatre of Dance is exceptionally strong and they put on amazing full-scale musicals and operas, just not a lot of them. The department is more geared towards acting, I would say, especially since there’s a really strong MFA program for drama.

thanks AlexaMT! I have no interest in a degree in MT, I only wish to continue playing my instrument in pit orchestra because I like pit orchestra more than concert band. Thank you!

abc - Keep in mind that there would be other opportunities in addition to any offered at UT to play in Austin. Lots of theatres in the area - both regional and community - that would need pit musicians.

GT doesn’t have any undergraduate majors that relate to music, just a music minor with a focus on theory, technology, or performance. That being said, since we’re in the middle of Midtown Atlanta, there’s some spectacular outlets for art, and amazing talent to learn and work with.
