MT at CCU and Texas State

Hello!
My daughter is trying to narrow down schools for musical theater. She has completed some of the larger more well known school applications. She recently heard about Texas State and Coastal Carolina having musical theater programs. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with either of these programs?

Thanks!!

Welcome. My D is a Jr. MT at CCU and is just loving this program. She has grown so much as an artist, loves the faculty, and has had such great performance opportunities, as well as master classes and workshops. She is thriving and could not be happier! Maybe AlexaMT (a classmate of my D’s) will chime in as she often posts on here and is more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Also, do-what-u-luv (who also posts on here regularly) has a D MT at CCU, AND a son MT at Texas State. So I know she, too, would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Good luck with the beginning of this exciting time!

If you search on this forum for Musical Theater Schools, you will find many threads specific to both of these programs. Good luck!

Texas State and Coastal Carolina are very good, audition-based BFA MT programs and both are very competitive for entry. There are dedicated MT CC sub-forums for both of these schools which contain lots of threads about the programs. You can find the sub-forums listed at the top of the main Musical Theatre CC page, or click these links:

I think EmsDad provides you with the links you need to answer a lot of questions! As theatrelvr said, I am currently a student at CCU and am happy to answer any specifics that previous posts cannot answer via Private Message. Do know that both CCU and (I am almost positive) Texas State require video pre-screens this year to come on campus and audition for their programs so if you are truly interested, it would be worth researching and getting in the game fairly quickly!

Both are wonderful, competitive programs that are somewhat similar (I think). They would be worth looking into if your D is interested in conservatory style training via a fairly small department within an affordable, state school setting.

I actually auditioned for Texas State as a walk-in at unifieds last year. I also attended this talk Kaitlin (head of MT there) gave. She gave us A LOT of information about the program. I honestly had never heard of Texas State until I walked across the audition room at unifieds. After that talk Kaitlin gave, it became one of my top choices. It’s truly a great program and you should try out for it! Kaitlin is also the nicest person you will ever meet. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me  I am not at Texas State, but that’s what I could tell you about the school from the experience I had at unifieds.

Btiger64 - As theatrelvr said, my son MT2014 goes to Tx State and my daughter MT2015 goes to Coastal Carolina. They both found fantastic fits in amazing newly revamped programs. They are both extremely happy and love their respective programs. Let me know if you have any specific questions or concerns. You may not be able to PM me, but if you ask me here, I can PM you :)
