do extracurricular activities involve playing instruments?

the same as the topic.
help!!

I have no clue what you are asking. If I had to give you an awesome, I guess I would have to say yes sometimes. They can, but they dont’ have to.

Are you asking if Extracurricular activities INCLUDE playing instruments? That is, if you’ve played Tuba for 7 years is that an EC? Yes, I believe it is.

If you’re asking if something has to include playing an instrument to qualify as an EC (which is what your title seems to say) then no. Playing football, volunteering with the dogs at the animal shelter, studying Hebrew, and being in NHS are all examples of EC that generally do not involve playing instruments.

what curious jane said.

so if i have played instrument for a long time, can i regard it as a extracurricular?

I assume you are asking for purposes of filling in the Common App or a college application. I would definitely put it on there in the extracurricular section. If it is something you do in an ensemble, put in any positions you hold (eg, section leader). If you have played in honors bands or won any awards at competitions, put those in as well. If you play in multiple groups (concert and marching band, jazz band, pit orchestras, etc.) put that in as well. If you have your own band (like, a rock band), I would put that in also. Put down how many years you have played/studied in total for sure (but probably no honors or anything from before 9th grade).

All of this said, my D did NOT put choir on her common app. But the reason is that while she does it as a class in school and sings in concerts with them, she is not super into it. She had already taken all the Common App EC slots with other activities and spilled over onto the additional info section with a couple more that wouldn’t fit. So she didn’t put it on, but partly because her app was starting to feel cluttered with so many ECs. And this is not one that is important to her, it is just something she does. But if she had been shorter on ECs, or more active with it, she definitely would have put it on.

More often of the musical variety rather then the medical variety. But if you perform surgery for fun you should probably include it.

I‘ve played an Chinese traditional instrument(hardly anyone realized it) for 6 years. can I say it can be a extracurricular?I want to say some difference between this instrument and other popular instruments, such as piano and violin.can i put it in the essay? or i have to write some merits or something?

Thanx!!

Just indicate that you play the instrument and for how long. This is should be obvious to someone who is college bound.
