I grew up in a farming community in Indiana. Of those who are still independent farmers, they are still sending their kids to college-especially Purdue for agriculture. A lot of other kids are going into business with plans to help their farms. Not everyone wants to join the family farm, so I see a lot of those kids going for nursing, engineering, medicine. In my hometown there are not a lot of philosophy majors but plenty of career-oriented plans.

My DS goes to a school with several farmer’s sons, mostly from the Midwest. It is not uncommon as the school has been educating the sons of farmers since their inception.
