I got a certain amount of money for the federal pell grant. Does every school offer a different amount for the federal pell grant or is that a set amount for every school?
It should be the same at every school.
thank u! if that is true it looks like i’ll be able to go to a suny for 2,000 a year!
After your TAP, PELL, student loan and SUNY credit that should be about right. If you need to get a part time job to make up the difference than do that
@sybbie719 I recieved scholarship from a SUNY and also another school sent me my financial aid report and showed my pell grant amount. I was asking this because I was wondering if pell grants vary per school because in combination with my pell grant and scholarship its about 2,000$ not including the fee section. So is it true that the pell grant doesn’t vary per school? always the same amount ? because that would be lifechanging for someone like me.
The Pell grant should be the same at every school but the amount in grants from college funds will vary.
Are you a NYS resident?
If yes, did you apply for TAP (NYS Tuition aid program)
Between TAP and the scholarship, you should be able to cover your tuition (unless you are getting a STEM scholarship or Excelsior scholarship, which you must still apply for TAP)
Is your scholarship limited to tuition or is it stackable so that you can use it toward room and Board?
If your are a NYS resident,
your tuition and fees should be
TAP
Scholarship
SUNY Credit
any left over monies along with Pell and your loan will go toward your room and board (unless you are attending a SUNY where you can commute and live at home)
I didn’t realize when I read your thread about excessive absences (30 as a junior for no “solid reason”) that you’re a Pell eligible student. That matters…a lot. You need to go research Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and make sure you know what it takes to keep your Pell grant. If you’re a NYS resident, read up on the NYS TAP grant too. Grants can be really easy to lose, and extremely difficult to get back.
@austinmshauri thanks for bringing that to my attention I had no idea that existed! I can’t find anything about high school absences so does that mean the it’s just how they make sure during college? Everything I read says it’s about maintaining the grant & I already qualify based on the basic eligibly requirements
If you are excessively absent in college you will not pass (some of your classes may issue you an unofficial withdrawal). If you don’t accumulate credits, you will not meet academic satisfactory progress. If you are not on track to graduate in 4 yers (accumulating 30 credits a year), you will lose your NYS aid and you will not get it back.
The Pell grant can be different, if the financial office applies professional judgement.
Only in that case, though … and that is rare, in the scheme of things.
