Do Freshman have to live on campus?

I am interested in attending USC, but I would need off campus housing. I have several reasons(personal, not just preference) and I can get a letter of reason from anyone knowing why. Any advice?

and the reference would be from my aunt who works at another university in their housing department. I could live in a single, but im afraid of taking the risk that I will not get my request.

i don't think freshmen are required to live on campus, but i think it may be recommended. if you have the $30 for the housing deposit, though, you should probably just apply for housing anyway. if you don't get a single, you can always cancel your request for housing & still live off campus.

just a side note, if your reason for not wanting a roommate is medical or something like that, you can contact DSP (the disabilities office) once you're accepted (i'm assuming you're applying for fall 08?) and they will do their best to accommodate you. i personally have a "disability" that would make living with a roommate a problem. i contacted DSP and they showed me what forms to fill out, then approved my request. it was a pretty painless process and now i have a single for next year. so it's worth a shot.

I would extremely like to live off campus, so if it is not required I think that would be my best option.. I may apply for a single though

You don't have to live on campus. I know a girl who will be living off campus as a freshman.

ditto. Freshmen are not required to live on campus. However, you might feel alienated from social life if you don't stay on campus. Just my two cents.
