do freshman usually get first choice dorms?

i really want to live in UHall. Do freshmen generally get their first choice dorms? and when do we apply and when do u we find out what dorm we are living in?

isnt uhall all freshman? i think ED students get first chioce over RD, i dunno

freshmen live in freshmen dorms and uhall is a freshmen dorm. ED gets priority over RD. You get your housing assignment in early august (although there are ways to find out a couple weeks earlier by your billing statment)

bumpity bump bumpity bump

Not sure why you're bumping this. NYU2010 gave you your answer. E.D. kids are guaranteed their first choice. R.D. kids aren't. Obviously, some of the R.D. kids will get their first choice and some won't. There's no way to predict who. When you get your formal offer of admission, there will be a form for you to apply for housing and you'll get to prioritize your choices (usually you'll list five in order of preference) when you send in your deposit. Your housing assignment and roommate info is mailed in early August.

matth - There are no guarantees with housing, even for ED though they get priority.
jae6forever - UHall is pretty big. I'm sure you'll get it whether you are ED or RD.

There may not be official guarantees, but I've been at NYU for three years and have never heard of ANY E.D. kid not getting the dorm they wanted.

omg hi joshua

I am currently a freshman in U-Hall. If you want to up your chances to get U-Hall, consider joining an explorations community. I am in one that is linked with a required MAP class, so I had a recitation with all the people I lived with. Also, on the explorations floor, extra money is set aside for you and your fellow explorers to do activites such as go to the opera, get lots of free meals, go to random city events, etc. You should definitely consider it. I believe applications go out the beginning of summer.

the dorm pictures online aren't really flattering. I mean usually schools will post pictures of decorated rooms, but the ones on NYU's website were plain.

^^my question: what are the dorms really like? Best freshman dorm, worst?

Uhall - best freshmen dorm
Hayden - best traditional freshmen dorm

both of which will probably be locked out by ED'ers

oh that sucks! What is the best dorm out of the cheap, freshman dorms?

^^got the answer, thanks. New question: what the heck is up with the $1000 deposit for dorms?
