Do Freshman Year Grades Count?

Hey Guys,

I went to a public high school for freshman year and had a 4.09 GPA (UW), but when I came to a private high school in 10th grade, my gpa dropped to a 3.75. Will colleges even bother looking at my freshman year grades, or will it just depend on my junior and senior year?

Sophomore year also counts.

I know Stanford explicitly doesn't look at Freshman year. Not sure about the other Ivies, but I'd say a lot of them do.

i don't think princeton looks at freshman year, either

anyway, doesn't matter. sophomore and junior years are the most important.

but in my case, if you have seen my thread, my freshmen year is not all that good... does that still make me eligible and likely to make it into Princeton if I do just as well as average acceptances HYP in soph/junior/senior year?

Actually, they might...depends on where you want to be.

Princeton supposedly doesn't weigh the freshmen year GPA

What about test scores? Do colleges care about sophomore year PSATs and the PLAN (pre-ACT) tests? Will bad scores affect my chances or are colleges only considered with the SATs and ACTs?

Remember, a lot of schools do look at grade trends.

EX. 4.0 freshman - 3.0 sophmore = bad

3.5 freshman - 4.0 sophmore = good

4.0 freshman - 4.0 sophmore = best

McGill does not look at freshman year grades for US applicants, and I THINK that they only look at Junior and Senior grades for Canadian applicants

lol... what about 3.0 to 4.0 in freshmen? :P

^ dats even better than 3.5 to 4.0. dats saying you matured and got tihngs straight and you are working your ass off

Grades 10-12 are far more important.

all of them are important.... i know some college admission officers for stanford. freshman is most important, then sophomore, then junior. please Don't get the facts wrong

....i think you might be confused there. Junior year is unequivocally the most important year, across the board. If that's a typo...Stanford says it doesn't look at freshman - and I do think it wouldn't give out that kind of false information. If it comes down to 2 equally qualified applicants, it might play a role, but otherwise does not.
