do i count as in state?

I currently live in NJ and goes to a public NJ hs
but my dad lives in NC for the past 2 year
and he put me as a dependent on North Carolina state and federal income taxes
so when i apply in the fall. will i be competing with the in state students?

I am not sure of this but I would guess that admissions would see you as in-state only if you were attending a boarding school in NJ and returning to NC for the summers. My take on this would be based on the fact that you attend a public school in NJ clearly indicating that you are a NJ resident.

just my $0.02

I would check the website and also talk to somebody in the registrar's office.

Reference | Residency | Office of the University Registrar

According to my knowledge, i think you do count as in-state. But i would do what the poster above me said

I live in VA under the same situation- I had to fill out an extra long residency form, but I got it worked out and they sent me a letter that said I would be considered a resident of NC for tuition and admission purposes. Just make sure you get everything straightened out; stay in touch with the admissions office and fill out whatever you need to.
