SAT: took it twice, highest score is 1980, I plan to study like heck for my 3rd try
ACT: I plan on taking ACT to see if that test is more for me

SAT IIs: I plan to take Math Level 2, US History, and Physics
Rank: Top 3 percent.

Completed/Currently enrolled AP courses: Euro History, Chemistry, Art History (Independent Study), Physics B, US History, Calculus BC, AP Lang and Comp

Senior Year (already planned) AP courses: US Gov, Comparative Gov, English Lit, French 4, Physics c, Prob and Stat

I also hope to take courses at my local community college (Linear Algebra and Differential Calculus). I don't know if this will also look better on my application

Basically that's it so far, Harvey Mudd is basically my dream school. I visited them last summer and fell in love with its size, community, and how the teachers spoke.
I think my weakest areas are SAT score and community service/extra curricular activities.
I just really want to know if I've positioned myself in a good spot or in a bad spot and what Harvey Mudd really focuses on.

like you said, everything looks good except the SAT score and the extracurriculars (simply because you didn’t mention them).

I got a 1860 my first try, 1840 my second, then i studied my ass off all summer with the official college board book, and got a 2100. My advice is to study your ass for the SAT, I think that’s the best way you can optimize your chances.

hmm well for CS I’m in key club, CSF, I tutor school kids and kids outside of school, help out in the library, and i organized a school wide recycling program

But I don’t really have any outside of school activities …

What you just listed as extracurriculars are all really great things. Before spending a lot of effort studying for the SAT, I would definitely take the ACT, because while I didn’t [take the ACT], a number of my friends have done significantly (equivalent of 200-300 points) better on the ACT than SAT.
Unrelatedly, though, I think you’d be better off taking a multivariable calculus course if you can.

Better to study the blue book instead (sorry Blackroses, couldn’t resist:D).
e5, as you probably already know, those test scores are your main obstacle. Hit 'em hard. Here are the median score ranges for HMC’s admits in this year’s admission cycle:

SAT CR: 690-770
SAT M: 740-800
SAT W: 690-770
SAT Math 2 subject: 760-800
ACT Composite: 33-35

Does other stuff matter – you bet it does. Demonstrated interest, the interview, the essays, the GPA and class standing (27% are vals)… all those things are considered. If you took those college courses you mention, your college transcript would be considered too (although the credits wouldn’t transfer). But do put some work into getting your test scores into a competitive range. Search the SAT forum for “xiggi method” and see if that will help you. Good luck!

And a great second-choice school for anyone who likes Harvey Mudd is Rose Hulman - be sure to check that out. I’m not dissing your chances or anything, but Mudd does turn away qualified applicants.

I used the template that people use for decisions & filled out what I can.

The only things that will be added to this are my junior year AP/IB scores and the SAT II Chemistry score, which I’m taking in June. My GPA is going to change for sure, and my guess is that it’s going to go down a little bit.
Other than that, this is pretty much it.
Mudd is my dream school right now, and I’m planning on applying ED1. The ideal situation is that I’m accepted through ED1, so that I won’t have to apply to any other privates and stress out for 4 more months afterwards :D
