*** Do I Do Now!?!?

Drexel University
Major: Accounting and Finance
GPA 3.3
1 Co-Op at Johnson and Johnson

a. Accounting Major only and graduate in 5 quarters?
b. Accounting + Finance Major and graduate in 6 quarters?
c. Accounting + Finance Major and graduate in 8 quarters and do 1 more co-op?

I graduated HS in 06 and I should have finished college this year. I want to work on wall street or anywhere I can work with investments/stock market. As a last resort, Ill take a job at a Big 4 or in corporate finance within a company.

Could you please tell me what the best thing to do is?

you have a 3.3 gpa at drexel university and you’ll take a job at the big 4 as a last resort… ■■■■■

Dude, this is something you ask your college advisor not a group of members of a general business forum.

But anyways, it seems you are putting way too much weight on your J&J internship. That’s a solid thing to put on a resume, but 3.3 GPA will make Big 4 quite the opposite of a safety career option and Wall Street a substantial stretch. Do option “a” and start getting some real work experience if your goals are what you stated above. Spending tuition money to continue taking “co-ops” is pretty stupid if you can just graduate and get a real job.

Ok, thanks for your reply. Do you know any place where I can get advice on this besides my advisor b/c the guy is not really helpful/knowledgable. Like another website maybe?

Also, besides my JNJ co-op I have some work experience at a small no name company doing accounting and I am also a member of 2 clubs at my school. I think I can push my GPA up to a 3.5 by the time I grad. Just wanted to add this to paint a clearer picture to help decide which path i should take.

Someone else is paying for my tuition and if I try to get a real job, im afraid I wont land at a good place, but if I do another coop, I think I can land at another large company like JNJ for a coop. I think I can get a co-op at a trading firm.

So if I took option 1 and just finished my accounting courses/no coop and graduated, if you had to geuss, where would I probably get a job? Is my situation that bad that ill probably end up working for a small no name company for 20$ bucks an hour? or less. :(

After looking at the first response to my thread, I feel awful about my situation. So I geuss theres no way for me to get inot a Big 4 or investment firm?

Submit a resume. See if J&J is interested in hiring you full or even part-time. Feel the job market out in your area. A 3.3-3.5 is above average overall, so you should be able to land a job even if it’s not with the Big 4. The only obstacle you still have to hurtle is the interview.

Oh, the irony!

Thanks for the advice Trizz, really appreciate it. Hey where are you from anyways and are you an accounting major too!

Also, can i ask if you have any ideas where I could go for more help, like another website/forum like this or people who would have deeper advice into how I should go foward? I was thinking a networking event but I want someone who can provide deeper insight on what i should do with career prospects on the financial industry.

Thanks for your help T!

lol this poster is hilarious im sorry “making 20 an hour”

Yes, I’m an accounting major.

Join a LinkedIn group relevant to what you are looking for. They usually have posts about networking events and allow you to post your topic specific questions. If you don’t have a LinkedIn, then it might be wise to make one.
