Won't be majoring in Engineering. Will pursue a major related to either language, cultures, social sciences, or humanities.

Of course you have a chance! Your stats are respectable, your course rigor is great and your ec’s are -although only a few - wonderful.

What you need to focus on is on your essays, which is the only thing you can control at the moment. It’s good that you haven’t submitted your application yet. Take the time to do all the editing and proof-reading to both essays, and show it to a teacher or family member and ask for their honest opinions - this way, if there’s something they don’t feel fits well, they’ll tell you. It helps a ton.

Then, before submitting your whole application, start from the first page, section by section, all the way to the very last, and make sure everything is complete. Submit and relax - this is important; don’t stress over it because once you submit it, there’s nothing more you can do so just take it easy and focus on your academics in school.

I’m also applying to UCLA this year, and have similar stats to yours. Good luck!

Thanks, elitepwnage!

Good luck to the both of us.

For starters, UCLA will weigh your application using the following context for each applicant:

a) How does your GPA compare to other students at your high school who applied to UCLA.

b) Where do you rank compared to other students at your high school who applied to a UC campus.

c) How does your GPA compared to the entire pool of applicants who applied to UCLA during this application cycle.

Because of your good GPA improvement from Soph - Jr. year and the rigorous course load your taking in your Senior year you have a good chance… but it will come down to your personal essay.

Because UCLA attracts thousands of strong applicants the deciding factor will be writing an excellent personal statement that allows the reader to understand why and how you stand out of the crowd of all the other applicants that have shown significant academic improvement.

I suggest using your personal statement essay to explain how you were able to improve on your average academic performance from Soph. year including examples of how you applied it and how you’re better for it.

Hmm… so many people seem to be writing (especially minorities) about culture and community service for their personal statements.

Woah, I’m from Guam too! This is amazing! I would say you have a great chance of getting into UCLA, like so great that I actually look up to you. Good luck!

I recalculated my UC GPA and it came out to be a 4.04… I didn’t include some courses in the initial calculation, and was confused on how to weigh honors courses. lol
And I was in contact with a Cal admissions officer via email over the course of these past 2 months. She gave me feedback, and said my rewrites were fantastic. Hopefully she’s right and my PS’s pull through. How much do you guys think my chances change?

UCLA is my dream school… as it is for many, many seniors. Hopefully luck is on all of our sides…
