I'm looking to transfer for fall 2007. I'm attending a CC now in Florida and will be graduating in the spring of '07 with my AA. I have a 3.69 now with a year to bring it up, what I can. I'm a member of Phi Theta Kappa a CC honor society (not sure if that matters) I do community service and work part-time. I took time off after high school to travel; I knew I didn't want to go to college yet. My high school grades aren't awful, but they aren't stellar either. My dream school is UNC-CH so I'm wondering what anyone's in put would be about my chances at getting in. I know I could go to school anywhere in Florida but I don't want to stay here. I'd love any advice and to know what everyone's thoughts are. Thanks so much in advance I really appreciate it.

I talked with someone who said they were waitlisted with a 3.85 and his SAT scores were higher than mine. Should I tack on more ec's and if so what else?

I think you stand a chance. I transferred as a junior with a 3.95 GPA, in-state, horrible high school stats/SATs. I always heard that as long as you have a decent college GPA (3.5 and above), you're in. I cant understand how anyone didnt get in right away with a 3.85, must have been some unusual circumstances

He was a sophomore not a junior not sure how big a difference that makes. Did you submit your SAT's?

I will be transferring to UNC this fall from Ithaca College (I'm a rising sophomore). I had a 3.8 when I applied to transfer and obviously was accepted, but my friend from IC (who had the same GPA) was denied admission. Her high school statistics were lower than mine, but it proves there is definitely more to it than GPA alone.

Do you think it will make a difference that I'll be a junior? I've heard that as a junior they don't place as much emphasis on SAT's and HS grades. Like I said they aren't awful but nothing to write home about either. Are there any specific e.c's that they like to see people take part in? I just really want to give myself the best chance. I'm coming from a CC not a university, although I will have my AA. I'm not sure if that will hurt my chances not coming from a four year university or not. I'd love, love, love, any advice, input, or criticism you have. Thanks so much for the advice I've already had. Keep it coming.

There is a person under the transfer thread who says they were waitlisted at UNC with a 4.0 college GPA out of NC state. They had decent HS transcripts and was waitlisted. This sounds very odd to me. Is this case a freak accident? If not then I stand no chance at being admitted with a 3.69 even if I do bring it up some over the next year. Anyone, someone please give me some advice

i think juniors have priority over sophomores when it comes to transferring, so maybe that was a factor in it.

whenever i visited, that's what i was told, anyway.

Thank you. Do you go to UNC?

i'm going next year :)

my dad went there, though, and some of his friends from then are professors there. that's pretty much what they said though. that if i didn't get into UNC the first year, then apply the second. but if i didnt get in the second year, to apply for a third time, because it's a lot easier to do that.

I should have enough credits to be considered a junior and I'll have my AA. Do they place a lot of emphases on ec's?

i'm not sure, but i'd assume that they'd want a really well rounded person..

Going to a CC I don't have that many options for ec's. I do some volunteer work, work part-time (when I can), and I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa (if that even matters?). Is that enough ec's I know they are pretty generic. Any suggestions?
