I am a high school junior and thinking about going to UNC. I have read a lot about how important class rank is and was wondering if i had a shot. I go to an instate public school that is very competitive. I have a 3.8 gpa and i am ranked 125/550+. I got a 1300 on the SAT(680 math, 620 verbal). taking 3 AP and all the rest honors classes right now. End of high school i will easily have 100+ community service hours. I run cross country, track, and play basketball. Very active in church youth group, volunteer at soup kitchen, women's shelter, and habitat for humanity. In 3 clubs right now. Do you think i could get in, i heard UNC is also very random.

It depends on your alum connection. I had very similar stats as you did when i was junior...I was 96 out of 402 with a 4.1 gpa and i was full IB with 4 APs and I got deferred EA then rejected RD. I went to State and i just found out that i got accepted as a transfer. If you could get your class rank to go up it would be better...but i dunno. If you dont get in you could always transfer. I'm pretty hype about going to UNC now...i can;t wait.

I wish you luck in the next year

State, UNCW, or ECU is where i will end up probably. My cousin did what you you did, and i will try to transfer also. He said it's a whole lot easier to transfer. What was your gpa at State? Thanks for the reply.

My gpa was a 4.0 first semester. I also got into the honors program and had a few extras.

Good luck. Who knows maybe you will get in the first time around...you never know.

hey don't give up, I always tell people to just apply and see what happens, you never know. And if you don't get accepted you could always transfer.
